Excursions

Ffestiniog Railway
The Ffestiniog Railway is the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Outstanding scenery, comfortable carriages and historic steam  engines await you here in the heart of Snowdonia. Glorious coastlines, ancient oak woodlands, mountains, rivers and castles, all beckon as you embark on your journey on this award-winning railway.

Llanberis Lake Railway
Little steam engines take you on a five-mile return journey alongside Lake Padarn, right in the heart of Snowdonia. The journey takes you past the 13th century Dolbadarn Castle, across possibly Britain’s shortest river and past Llanberis’ twin lakes. From Llanberis the train runs non-stop through the Padarn Country Park, joining the 1845 slate railway route to run along the shores of Lake Padarn to Penllyn, and giving stunning views of Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales.

Roman Chester
Enjoy a full day in one of the best preserved walled cities in the UK. The city walls provide a two mile long birds-eye view of this beautiful medieval city, which is almost two thousand years old. Chester boasts a number of historical architectural structures, including Chester Castle, the cathedral and “The Rows”; unique two tiered black and white buildings housing many shops in the city centre.
