Kendal is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, two castles, two museums, a host of historical buildings and a multitude of fine bars and restaurants. From your town centre base at the County Hotel, we venture out to explore famous Bowness & Windermere and the highlight of the  tour is a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway which navigates seven miles of spectacular scenery, taking you to the foot of England’s highest mountains.

Excursions

Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway
The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge railways in England, known affectionately as La’al Ratty meaning “little railway“ in olde Cumbrian dialect. The steam train journey embarks from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World  Heritage site, Lake District National Park. Travel across the estuary, through the hills, en-route to our final destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station. The cosy covered and open top carriages provide the best of comfort and spectacular mountain views as you travel up the line.

Bowness & Windermere
Spend the day exploring Bowness and Windermere, two beautiful towns lying on the banks of Lake Windermere. Take a wander around the many visitor attractions and shops or go for a cruise along the largest natural lake in the UK.
